Mysimba®

Mysimba®

A tablet-based approach to weight management

Mysimba® contains two active ingredients, naltrexone and bupropion, which work on areas of the brain involved in appetite, food intake and cravings.

Mysimba® is a prescription tablet used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

How does it work?

Mysimba® works differently from GLP-1 medicines.

Its two active ingredients act on brain pathways involved in appetite and food-related reward.

It may help to:

🧠 Reduce appetite

🍽️ Reduce food intake

🎯 Reduce cravings and food-related reward

Who may be suitable?

Mysimba® may be suitable for adults with:

BMI of 30 kg/m² or above, or

BMI of 27 kg/m² or above where there is at least one weight-related health condition.

There are several important medical conditions and medicines that can make Mysimba® unsuitable.

Your pharmacist will carefully assess your medical history and current medicines before treatment.

How is Mysimba® taken?

The dose is increased gradually over four weeks:

Week 1: 1 tablet daily

Week 2: 2 tablets daily

Week 3: 3 tablets daily

Week 4 onwards: 4 tablets daily

The maximum dose is 4 tablets per day, taken as two tablets in the morning and two in the evening.

The tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed, chewed or broken.

How much weight could I lose?

Everyone responds differently.

Rather than expecting a particular percentage of weight loss, your response to treatment is monitored.

Mysimba® should be stopped if you have not lost at least 5% of your starting body weight after 16 weeks.

Your pharmacist will review your progress and advise whether continued treatment is appropriate.

What are the side effects?

Common side effects include:

🤢 Nausea or vomiting

💩 Constipation or diarrhoea

🤕 Headache

😴 Dizziness or difficulty sleeping

👄 Dry mouth

Mysimba® can also affect blood pressure and heart rate.
