Could I have ADHD?
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect attention, concentration, organisation and impulse control.
Although ADHD often begins in childhood, many people reach adulthood without ever being diagnosed.
Common experiences can include:
- Difficulty concentrating or staying focused
- Forgetfulness or frequently losing things
- Struggling with organisation and time management
- Starting tasks but finding it difficult to finish them
- Being easily distracted
- Restlessness or impulsivity
- Finding it difficult to manage competing priorities
Having some of these experiences doesn’t necessarily mean you have ADHD. A professional assessment can help you understand whether your symptoms meet the recognised criteria for a diagnosis.
How does the ADHD assessment work?
We’ve made the process as straightforward as possible, with a clear four-step assessment pathway.
1. Complete Your Self-Referral
Start by completing a self-referral with our partners at Makewell.
You’ll provide some information about your symptoms and background, followed by a more detailed pre-assessment questionnaire.
2. Attend Your Face-to-Face Assessment
You’ll attend your chosen Right Medicine Pharmacy for an in-person appointment.
This includes a computerised ADHD test measuring areas including attention and response control, followed by a 2 to 3-hour clinical assessment with a trained specialist pharmacist.
3. Clinical Follow-Up
Within two weeks of your pharmacy appointment, you’ll have a follow-up call with a Makewell clinician to discuss your assessment, answer any questions and talk through what happens next.
4. Receive Your Assessment Report
You’ll receive a comprehensive clinical report confirming the findings of your assessment and whether the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis have been met.
Your report will normally be issued within eight weeks of your follow-up consultation.
Where can I have my assessment?
Face-to-face ADHD assessment appointments are currently available at five Right Medicine Pharmacy locations:
Carronshore | Ochiltree | Roseburn, Edinburgh | Buckpool | Forres
This means you can access the face-to-face part of your assessment locally, rather than having to travel significant distances for specialist assessment.
What happens if I am diagnosed with ADHD?
If ADHD is diagnosed, you’ll be able to discuss the options available to help you manage it.
Depending on your individual circumstances, these may include:
- ADHD medication
- Therapy
- ADHD coaching
- Lifestyle and self-management strategies
- Further clinical support
Where medication may be appropriate, Makewell can discuss private treatment and prescribing options with you, subject to clinical suitability and eligibility.
Any medication, ongoing treatment or private prescribing is separate from the £995 assessment fee.
How much does an ADHD assessment cost?
£995
The £995 fee covers your complete adult ADHD assessment pathway, including:
- Pre-assessment screening and questionnaires
- Review of your referral information
- QB Check
- 2 to 3-hour face-to-face clinical assessment
- Clinical follow-up with Makewell

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can self-refer directly into the service.
How long does the assessment take?
Your face-to-face appointment will usually take around 2 to 3 hours, with additional assessment and follow-up taking place before and after your appointment.
Will I automatically receive a diagnosis?
No. The purpose of the assessment is to establish whether your symptoms and history meet the recognised clinical criteria for ADHD.
Can I receive ADHD medication if I am diagnosed?
Where medication is clinically appropriate, Makewell can discuss private prescribing and treatment options with you. Medication and ongoing prescribing are separate from your assessment fee.
Can my GP take over prescribing afterwards?
This depends on your GP practice and local NHS arrangements. NHS prescribing cannot be guaranteed as part of the private ADHD assessment service.
